I'm sure you've heard plenty of rumors and rumblings about purchasing a townhouse, and I'm sure you have your own pre-conceived notions about how horrible it would be to share a wall (or two) with your neighbors. We're here to tell you that it's not nearly as horrible as you may think! Let's look at some townhouse truths:
LOW MAINTENANCE Every townhouse has a homeowners association (HOA) and yes, you'll pay monthly dues. But consider this: typically the HOA covers lawn maintenance as well as a few utilities, and it maintains common areas, possibly even entry gates or guards for security. Can you imagine never having to dehydrate yourself from sweating and fending off Louisiana mosquitos while mowing the lawn again!? Even though you have your own grass and usually a shrub or flowerbed, most HOA's cover lawn maintenance, which means there's no need for pricey lawn equipment or back breaking labor to keep your lawn looking healthy and fresh! #yardenvy CLOSE QUARTERS You're probably thinking, "that's my issue!" but hear us out. Knowing your neighbors is quickly becoming a phenomena of the past and it's disheartening at best. Having neighbors you know can be a fantastic asset! They can take in all those Amazon packages when you're out of town, watch over Fido or Fefe while you vacationing, and keep a watchful eye out for suspicious activity while you're away. Most townhouses are well insulated, so there's not much concern about noise traveling. If you're not convinced, ask your Realtor® to do some more checking into it OR go talk to the neighbor(s) yourself and see what feedback you get! MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK Owning a townhouse can be significantly cheaper than purchasing a single family home. $Cha-Ching$ Even though you can easily get the same amenities in a townhouse - granite countertops, stainless appliances, beautiful hardwood floors, and spacious living quarters - townhouses are generally speaking much less to mortgage! Some even come with an attached garage! Many townhouses are split level, but it is possible to find single story living in a townhouse community, just ask one of our buyer's agents for help finding one! WHO IS A TOWNHOUSE RIGHT FOR? The simple answer is... ANYONE! Owning a townhouse makes perfect sense for newlywed couples, college students, small families, the elderly, single parents, young couples, old couples, and single people who are tired of paying rent!
